Approval of 903 Schemes in the State Canceled; Major Decision by Devendra Fadnavis Government

Mumbai | The Maharashtra government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has taken a bold and significant decision. Administrative approval for as many as 903 development schemes across the state has been canceled. These include projects that have been stalled for several years and have shown no real progress. The announcement was made through the Department of Soil and Water Conservation.

The canceled schemes include minor irrigation projects, core percolation tanks, percolation ponds, and storage tank repair schemes, among others. Implementation of these projects had been delayed for the past three years due to challenges like land acquisition issues, opposition from local residents, and lack of cooperation from some contractors. Therefore, instead of extending the timeline for these projects, the government has opted to withdraw their administrative approval altogether.

This decision is expected to prevent misuse of funds and clear the way for new, more effective projects. Although the government is striving for development across the state, incomplete or stalled schemes often lock up funds and delay the delivery of services to beneficiaries. Hence, by canceling such non-performing schemes and promoting efficient ones, this move is being seen as a strategic and impactful step by the government. The focus now shifts to how this decision will affect operations at the district and taluka levels.

There is ongoing discussion that the much-debated “Ladki Bahin Yojana” (Beloved Sister Scheme) is putting pressure on the state treasury. Thousands of crores are reportedly allocated for this scheme every month, and it has been alleged that funds from other departments were redirected to support it. Some departments have expressed dissatisfaction over this in recent days. As a result, it is now being questioned whether the cancellation of the pending schemes is indirectly linked to funding this scheme. However, claims about fund diversion for the Ladki Bahin Yojana have been strongly denied as false and baseless.
