Shiv Sena’s saffron in the hands of MLAs in the storm of rebellion; Who is the Presidential candidate Rajan Salvi?
Ratnagiri: After the state assembly elections, a big storm was created in Shiv Sena. The party MLAs started carrying the flag of rebellion and 39 MLAs chose to join the rebel group by challenging the party leadership. Eknath Shinde, who is leading the group, was recently sworn in as the Chief Minister with the support of the BJP. On the one hand, while this historic revolt was taking place in the party, 16 MLAs, however, stood firmly with party chief Uddhav Thackeray. This includes Rajan Salvi, MLA from Rajapur in Ratnagiri district. Expressing faith in this MLA Salvi, Mahavikas Aghadi has given him candidature in the election for the post of Assembly Speaker. Salvi’s fight will be against BJP candidate Rahul Narvekar.
Rajan Salvi is the most senior Shiv Sena MLA in Ratnagiri district. This is Salvi’s third term as MLA. He was elected from Rajapur Assembly constituency in the 2019 elections after defeating Congress candidate Avinash Lad. Rajan Salvi has served as Ratnagiri Municipal Councilor, Mayor and Shiv Sena District Chief. Despite being a senior Shiv Sena MLA from Ratnagiri district, Rajan Salvi has never had a chance to work in the cabinet. After the 2019 assembly elections, Shiv Sena came to power through Mahavikas Aghadi. However, before the election, Salvi had lost his ministerial post due to Uday Samant who joined Shiv Sena from NCP. But two days ago, Uddhav Thackeray has given the responsibility of Shiv Sena deputy leadership to Rajan Salvi. Also, now that he has been nominated for the post of Assembly Speaker, the entire state, including Ratnagiri district, is paying close attention to what exactly happened in this election.
