The Shinde government won the first battle for the post of Assembly Speaker; Rahul Narvekar’s victory in the election

Mumbai: Rahul Narvekar, a candidate from BJP and Shinde faction, has emerged victorious in today’s polls for the post of Assembly Speaker. Narvekar got a total of 164 votes from Shinde group, BJP and Independent, while Rajan Salvi from Mahavikas Aghadi got 107 votes against him. Also, Raees Sheikh, Abu Azmi and Shah Farooq Anwar remained neutral. The election has been the talk of the state for the past few days. After all, BJP has won this election.

After the commencement of the work of the Legislature, BJP State President and MLA Chandrakant Patil proposed the name of Rahul Narvekar for the post of Assembly Speaker. On the other hand, the name of Rajan Salvi was proposed by the Mahavikas Aghadi. After that, counting of votes for the post of Assembly Speaker started by head count. However, while the counting was going on, there was confusion as soon as the counting of votes reached 14. After that, NCP leader Jayant Patil objected to this process and made some suggestions.

The ruling MLAs were voting as 1, 2, 3 by head count. But some MLAs only mentioned their seat numbers. This caused a great deal of confusion in the legislature. Jayant Patil objected to this confusion and requested for counting of votes as per the seat number. This was also approved by BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the census was started accordingly.

Rahul Narvekar’s political career after winning the presidential election

Rahul Narvekar is a BJP MLA from Mumbai. Narvekar was earlier in the Shiv Sena, but in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he joined the NCP after his party refused him a ticket. Rahul Narvekar, who was the Shiv Sena spokesperson at the time and considered to be close to Aditya Thackeray, was surprised to leave the party suddenly.

Upon joining the NCP, Jitendra Awhad announced his ticket for the Lok Sabha elections from Maval constituency to Rahul Narvekar. However, they had to face defeat from Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Barne. Narvekar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in June 2016 as a nominated member of the Governor. Then, in the run-up to the 2019 Assembly elections, the Norwegians beat the NCP and carried the Bharatiya Janata Party flag on their shoulders. He is now the sitting MLA from Colaba Assembly constituency in Mumbai on a BJP ticket. Rahul Narvekar is the son-in-law of Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, the Speaker of the Legislative Council. Rahul’s father Suresh Narvekar was a corporator from Colaba area. Brother Makrand Narvekar is the second corporator from Ward No. 227. Rahul’s daughter-in-law Harshita Narvekar is a corporator from Ward No. 226.

Rajan Salvi’s political career

Rajan Salvi is the most senior Shiv Sena MLA in Ratnagiri district. This is Salvi’s third term as MLA. He was elected from Rajapur Assembly constituency in the 2019 elections after defeating Congress candidate Avinash Lad. Rajan Salvi has served as Ratnagiri Municipal Councilor, Mayor and Shiv Sena District Chief.
