Legislative Council elections: BJP did it, NCP only did it!

  • Lande, Pansare, Behl and Vaghere also got trumpets from the party leaders
  • Disappointment of Pimpri-Chinchwadkar during his 25 years in power

Pimpri. Special Representative

The local leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Pimpri-Chinchwad, which has been in power for almost 25 years since its inception, have not been given the rank of Mahamandal or Minister of State. However, after five years in power, the BJP gave many important posts in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Therefore, on the issue of giving strength to the local leadership, the BJP has done its best, but the NCP has only faltered.

Elections to Rajya Sabha, Legislative Council and forthcoming local bodies are in full swing in the state. While the Rajya Sabha elections were just beginning, the BJP announced five candidates for 10 seats in the Legislative Council. Among them, the candidature of Uma Khapre, the state president of Mahila Morcha, has created a stir in the political circles in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

As a loyalist of the party, Khapare was first given the opportunity to be the state woman president and now to the Legislative Council. However, local leaders who have been working for the NCP since its inception have been frustrated for the last 25 years. With the exception of former mayor Azam Pansare, former MLA Vilas Lande, former mayor Yogesh Behl, former mayor Sanjog Waghere-Patil were expected to get a chance at a corporation in the Legislative Council or the Mahavikas Aghadi government. However, that did not happen.

On the other hand, Amar Sable as Rajya Sabha MP, Adv. Sachin Patwardhan, Amit Gorkhe on Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Mahamandal, Sadashiv Khade as Chairman of Pimpri-Chinchwad Navnagar Development Authority, Shailja More as Deputy Mayor, Keshav Gholave, Eknath Pawar as ruling party leader, Namdev Dhake, Vilas Madigeri on various standing committees . Didn’t the NCP leaders learn anything from this? Such a question has arisen.

Municipal victory difficult without competent local leadership

Pimpri-Chinchwad, once a stronghold of the NCP, became a NCP-free city in the 2014 Assembly elections. The opposition dominated the three assembly constituencies in the city. In 2017, the NCP had to face defeat in the municipal elections. Then in 2019, NCP got victory in Pimpri Assembly constituency. However, official candidates could not be fielded in Chinchwad and Bhosari. The city has formed factions at the local level in the NCP. It is a fact that not a single local figure has emerged who can lead the entire city. At the same time, the regional leadership is expected to strengthen the local leadership. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the NCP to win the upcoming municipal elections.

State BJP pays close attention in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar recently visited the city on the occasion of Bhumi Pujan of various development works. At this time, the BJP’s state leadership is not paying attention in the city. However, we come to the city permanently. There is attention in development work, he said openly. However, the rise of BJP state level leaders in the city has increased. That is why a group of 25 to 30 people will join the NCP, even though they are very angry with the local leadership of the BJP.
