Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati was born in a Brahmin family in Dighori village of Jabalpur in Siwani district of Madhya Pradesh. His parents named him Pothiram Upadhyay. He left home at the age of 9 and started his religious work. After that, he studied Vedas, Vedanga and Shastra from Brahmaleen Sri Swami Karpatri Maharaj in Kashmi, Uttar Pradesh. In 1942, he became famous as a revolutionary sadhu.
