Legislative Council elections will be held, 11 candidates are in the fray for 10 seats, unopposed efforts finally failed

Mumbai: It has become clear that the election will be held as the applications of 11 candidates for 10 seats of Maharashtra Legislative Council have been retained. 5 BJP candidates are in the fray. As two nominations of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress are still valid, 11 candidates are in the fray for 10 seats. Sadabhau Khot had said that he would withdraw the application if Devendra Fadnavis was notified. Finally, Sadabhau Khot has withdrawn his candidature. The third candidature filed by NCP has been withdrawn. NCP’s Shivajirao Garje has withdrawn his candidature. Garje had filed a dummy application. Now 5 candidates from BJP, 2 from Shiv Sena, 2 from NCP and 2 from Congress will be in the fray.

The BJP had fielded Pravin Darekar, Ram Shinde, Prasad Lad, Uma Khapre and Shrikant Bhartiya for the Legislative Council. Sadabhau Khot had filed his candidature with the support of BJP. Sadabhau Khot has withdrawn his candidature. It has become clear that the election for the Legislative Council will be held as 11 applications remained after the deadline for withdrawal of applications. Shiv Sena has fielded Sachin Ahir and Amashya Padvi for the Assembly elections. So, NCP has nominated Eknath Khadse and Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar. Bhai Jagtap and Chandrakant Handore have been nominated by the Congress.

Election is about to take place
After the BJP’s victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, their aggression has increased. BJP has fielded 5 candidates for the Legislative Council. BJP had got 123 first choice votes in Rajya Sabha elections. So, Mahavikas Aghadi got 162 first preference votes. After the defeat of Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pawar, discussions were going on that the Legislative Council elections should be held without any opposition. However, since the Congress did not withdraw the nomination of any of the two candidates, it has become clear that the election will be held.
