Against illegal hoardings and banners, the High Court has once again issued stern instructions to local bodies. The Mumbai High Court has already issued detailed orders to take action on such hoardings and create a mechanism for citizens to lodge complaints. However, as the order is not being implemented, the High Court has filed a contempt petition on its own. G. The case was heard before a bench headed by Bisht.
During the hearing, the Mumbai High Court has directed all the Municipal Corporations and Municipalities in the state to state what action has been taken against illegal hoardings and banner hoarding by June 13. In this case, all the important political parties have given a written guarantee of compliance with the order in the High Court. The High Court also directed the original public interest litigants to give notice to all the parties regarding the next hearing. In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether the High Court’s stance will curb illegal banner-flying in all major cities across the state.
