Meteorological Department’s Orange Alert: Heavy rain forecast in Konkan and Pune along with Mumbai

Rain has lashed some parts of the state. Rain has been lashing Mumbai and Thane areas since night and some areas of Pune, Palghar, Nashik and Yavatmal districts have also received rain. Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Western Maharashtra including Konkan today. Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Mumbai and Pune in Konkan have been given orange alert for rain. Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nagar, Kolhapur, Wardha and Buldhana districts have been receiving heavy rain for two days. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of heavy rain in 3 days. The districts of Nashik Nandurbar, Satara, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg have been given yellow alert for rain.

Monsoon will be active for 3 to 4 days –
Monsoon will remain active for the next 3 to 4 days, said meteorologist K.S. Hosalikar has given. It has been warned that this could have a major impact in Konkan and West Maharashtra. Heavy rain at isolated places is expected in Raigad and Ratnagiri till Saturday. However, heavy rain has been predicted in Sindhudurga till Friday.

What do yellow and orange alerts mean –
In Yellow Alert, the Meteorological Department predicts the possibility of light rain. Also Yellow Alert is given to be cautious. Orange alert is issued by the Meteorological Department in places where there is heavy rain. An orange alert is a slightly less dangerous condition than a red alert.
