Health Department on Alert Due to Respiratory Outbreak in China
Pune: There has been a rise in the spread of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory infection, in China. In response, the Public Health Department has gone into alert mode and issued instructions to all districts. It was clarified that no cases of HMPV have been reported in Maharashtra so far.
A joint meeting between Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Atul Goyal and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) was held on Saturday, during which a statement regarding HMPV was released.
Upon analyzing respiratory illness data, the Public Health Department found no significant increase in cases of respiratory diseases in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
Precautionary Measures:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizers.
- Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food.
- If you experience symptoms like fever, cough, or sneezing, avoid public places.
- Avoid close contact with sick individuals.
- Do not spit in public areas.
