Election department ready: Municipal election aspirants pay attention to Supreme Court hearing!

Pimpri: There is confusion about when the next election of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be held. However, elections can take place at any time. The election department is making strong preparations in this regard. The Election Department is repairing the EVM machine, dividing the voter list by division, and determining the location of the RO office. Elections could be declared anytime if the Supreme Court repeals the state government’s law on the right to form wards in a hearing on May 4. Therefore, the election department is almost started.

As per the order of the State Election Commission, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Administration has formed wards for the 2022 elections in a three-member system. 45 wards of 3 members and 1 ward of 4 members. Out of which 139 councilors are to be elected. The draft ward structure prepared accordingly was released on 1st February. Objections were also raised on the formation of this ward and a hearing was also held on it. The report of the hearing was also sent to the Election Commission. The ward structure is yet to be finalized.

After the Supreme Court stayed the OBC reservation in local bodies, the state took over the election rights by passing a special law. Since then, elections for various Municipal Corporations in the state have been delayed. The law has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Thirteen petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court alleging that the state government has interfered in the powers of the Election Commission.
