Retired Union Home Secretary Dr. Madhav Godbole dies in Pune

Retired Union Home Secretary Dr. Dr Madhav Godbole has passed away due to old age. Apart from his administrative career, Godbole, who is known for his scholarly writing on various subjects, breathed his last at the age of 87 at his residence in Pune.

Madhav Godbole has held many senior positions during his career. He remained active even after his retirement from the administrative service. He shared his administrative experience with the masses through column writing in various newspapers. Godbole’s writing has also been a guide for young people who want to enter the administrative service. Therefore, his demise is being mourned at all levels.

  • Career of Madhav Godbole

Dr. Madhav Godbole was born on 15th August 1936. Godbole holds an M.A. in Development Economics from Williams College, USA. And Ph.D. Earned these degrees. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1959 and retired voluntarily in March 1993 as Union Home Secretary and Secretary of Justice. Prior to that, he was the Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development in the Central Government. Also before that Dr. Godbole had also served as the Chief Finance Secretary in the Government of Maharashtra.
