Cloudburst-like Rain in Kolhapur, Heavy Showers in Pune Too; High Alert Across Maharashtra

Kolhapur | The monsoon has once again gained momentum across Maharashtra. Today, cloudburst-like torrential rains lashed Kolhapur city and surrounding rural areas. Pune city and district also experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning. Due to the risk of lightning, the administration has urged citizens to stay in safe locations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of intense rainfall across the state for the next two days, especially in Konkan, South Maharashtra, and Vidarbha.
Weather Department Forecast
The IMD has issued a severe rainfall alert for the entire state of Maharashtra.

Red Alert has been issued for Sindhudurg district.

Orange Alert for Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Washim, Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, and Chandrapur.

Yellow Alert is in place for the remaining regions.
From June 12 to 15, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Wind speeds may reach 50–60 km/h, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Monsoon Advancement
According to the Regional Meteorological Center, the Southwest Monsoon has now covered large parts of the state, including Mumbai and Ahmednagar. Within the next 48 hours, it will likely advance into Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Due to cyclonic circulation active over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall intensity is expected to rise in Konkan, Marathwada, and Karnataka. Between June 12 and 17, intense rain is forecast for Konkan and Central Maharashtra, while Vidarbha and Marathwada may see heavy rainfall.
Advisory for Caution
The rains have increased the risk of floods and landslides. Due to red and orange alerts in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, and Ratnagiri, residents have been instructed to stay cautious. Farmers have been advised to monitor weather forecasts carefully before sowing. Marathwada is experiencing cloudy skies, with light rain reported in some areas.
