  • Bogus slum dwellers, however, oppose the legal survey

Pimpri: The administration has resolved to make Pimpri-Chinchwad slum free. However, the number of slums has increased over the last several years, and the picture of illegal businesses, crime and vagrancy is visible. In such a situation, there is no option but to survey the slums in the city and provide rightful housing to the real slum dwellers. Otherwise, there is a fear that the number of illegal slums will increase and the social health of the city will deteriorate.

A survey of slums in Pimpri-Chinchwad was undertaken at the initiative of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. In this survey, numbers are given to the houses after taking information of the respective hut owner. Thereby the eligible beneficiaries are given a legally entitled house in the rehabilitation project.

Interestingly, the slums were surveyed 22 years ago. After that no survey was done. Therefore, the number of unsurveyed huts is the highest. If there is no survey, how will these slum dwellers get a house in the new project? This is the key point.

Meanwhile, Slum Rehabilitation Authority Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Nimbalkar undertook the survey work in the interests of slum dwellers in the city. Due to this, the slum dwellers have got relief and the way to get their rightful house has been paved.

Loss of real slum dwellers due to selfishness…

It is the role of the administration to ensure that the slum-free city and the poor get their rightful housing. However, the stance of opposing the survey is being taken by some citizens. which has no legal basis. Some persons have occupied eight-ten places in the huts and erected concrete huts. Possession of the hut, but not living in the hut. Some have given the huts on lease. So, after the survey, their cow business will revolt, other slum dwellers are being lured out of this concern. The administration is trying to create awareness about the survey and rehabilitation project. But, some people think their own selfishness is more important than clearing slums. Therefore, efforts are being made to sabotage the slum rehabilitation project.

Khandewasti in Bhosari has about 700 huts spread over four and a half acres. The administration has decided to rehabilitate them as per rules. 75 percent people have agreed. Based on that preliminary survey has been started. Some people opposed him. Rightful housing and other infrastructure facilities will be provided. Obstructing government work is not an option. Objections can be appealed to a higher level. Court doors are also open. Opposition for opposition’s sake is not right. We are working according to the rules. We will conduct the survey on September 5. Everyone will be given an opportunity to present their views in the meeting held at that time.
