The city will host national and international players; Appeal to submit application by 10th June
Pimpri: The Municipal Corporation will felicitate the players of the city who have attained proficiency and participated in various sports competitions held at the national and international level in the years 2021-22 and 2022-23. Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne has appealed to such players to download a copy of the application form from the NMC website and submit the application along with the required documents by June 10.
The purpose behind this is to give a pat on the back to the successful players in the city and inspire them to perform brilliantly in the future. The Municipal Corporation has undertaken various initiatives to make Pimpri Chinchwad famous as a sports city as well as to encourage the sportspersons of the city to make great achievements in the field of sports.
The city of Pimpri Chinchwad is renowned in the world as an industrial city. Now with a view to create an independent identity for the city as a sports ground, various sports related activities are being carried out in the city on behalf of the Municipal Corporation. Accordingly, a rowing training center has recently been set up in the city jointly by the Municipal Corporation and CME, where students from various schools in the city are being imparted rowing training. Last year, NMC had organized a national level hockey tournament at Major Dhyanchand Hockey Polygrass Ground in Nehru Nagar. Due to the successful organization of this tournament, Hockey India has given an opportunity to the Municipal Corporation to organize an international hockey tournament.
National and international players are being formed through the Warrock Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in Thergaon. Also, Marutrao Landage International Residential Wrestling Training Center has been set up at Bhosari to impart classical training to the wrestlers in the city. An International Kabaddi Training Center is also being set up here. This will create international players in various sports in the city, said Additional Commissioner Dhakne.
Against this backdrop, Khelo India on behalf of the Municipal Corporation will organize an inter-university (national) level event for the city students, athletes as well as national championships organized by the sports association, proficient and participating in various international sports competitions.
