Social activist Maruti Bhapkar, who was preparing for the Dehut agitation, was arrested by the police

Pimpri: Police have arrested Maruti Bhapkar, a social activist who was preparing for the agitation today on the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dehu. Police have arrested Bhapkar from his house this morning. Maruti Bhapkar had today (Dec. 14) called for a one-day symbolic hunger strike at Shri Kshetra Dehu to demand that the state government, along with the local bodies, should take responsibility for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers near the railways.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming today for the public dedication ceremony of Shila Mandir of Saint Tukaram Maharaj in Dehu. Adequate security has been maintained by the police against that background. Meanwhile, Maruti Bhapkar had warned of a symbolic hunger strike. However, this morning, the police have arrested Bhapkar from his residence.
