Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who tried to pull down Narendra Modi from power at the Center by appealing to the people of the country through Bharat Jodo Yatra, has received a big shock today. Because out of 11 Congress MLAs in Goa, 8 MLAs have joined BJP. Giving a big blow to Goa Congress, 8 MLAs of the party have fallen in love with Kamal. Former chief ministers Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, who left the BJP before the elections and joined the Congress, have also rejoined the BJP. Speaking to media, MLA Michael Lobo said that we joined BJP to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Due to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, while there is an atmosphere of excitement in the Congress across the country, on the other hand, the Congress in Goa has been shaken. The MLAs who have joined the BJP include former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Paldesai, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, Alexo Sequeira and Rudolph Fernandes. After eight MLAs joined the BJP, now the Congress is left with only three MLAs. Goa BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanawade welcomed all the MLAs to the party. After this, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, while congratulating all the MLAs, also quipped that the Bharat Jodo Yatra but the Congress Quit Yatra has started. Chief Minister Sawant said, ‘You have come to BJP to make a strong Goa, I welcome you wholeheartedly’.

Elections were held for 40 assembly seats in Goa in February. NDA has 25 MLAs and Congress had 11 MLAs. Earlier in 2019, 10 out of 15 Congress MLAs joined BJP. Opposition leader Chandrakant Kavalekar also participated in this. In the 2017 Goa assembly elections, the Congress had won 17 seats, but despite 13 seats, the BJP managed to form a coalition government.
