State Opposition Leader Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that the bullock cart race would not be stopped.

Under the guidance of BJP city president and MLA Mahesh Landage, the largest bullock cart race in India was held at Talgaon Chikhali on the initiative of former mayor Nitin Kalje and former mayor Rahul Jadhav. MLA Landage said that farmers in Maharashtra are able to enjoy bullock cart races. His credit goes only to the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. By 2017, no ruler should start a bullock cart race. The state government has not spent a single rupee for this. I swear by Khandoba, how can Fadnavis raise the cost of around Rs 20 lakh for each hearing? That was the question. At that time, Fadnavis decided that the state government would pay for the race. We took the bullock cart movement to the Vidhan Bhavan to legislate. Fadnavis, who was the Chief Minister at that time, came to accept the statement himself. But, Fadnavis never took credit.

  • Did politics to prevent Fadnavis from getting credit?

The then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis enacted a law on the lines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka regarding the introduction of bullock cart race. However, the law was challenged in court by Ajay Marathe. Who was behind that Maratha? Fadnavis alone should not be credited for presenting such a question. For this, some people did politics, said MLA Mahesh Landage.

  • Contributions of Fadnavis and Landage: Sandeep Bodge

Sandeep Bodge, president of the All India Bullfighting Association, said that MLA Mahesh Landage helped in starting the bullfighting in the state. Not all parties in the state were opposed to the bullock cart race. But, the biggest help came from Devendra Fadnavis and Mahesh Landage. The wheel of a bullock cart and the rural economy are inextricably linked. The then BJP government in the state passed a law to start bullock carts. Fadnavis took the initiative to legislate on the lines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The law was challenged in court. At that time, Fadnavis took a big decision that the state government should bear the cost by appointing expert lawyers in the court. Also, a committee was appointed to prepare a report on the running capacity of the bulls. The committee’s report helped fight the bullfight in the Supreme Court. He also appealed to the central government to follow up to remove the bulls from the list of protected animals.

He also told a story about the dress worn by Fadnavis. He said, my friend asked me a question, why are you and Maheshdada wearing the same dress today? I said, “Do you know the basic pattern of dialogue? The bull never comes alone, it comes in pairs and even with the plow… ” this plow is for someone… but for those who oppose the bullock cart race, Fadnavis also gave a hint in the ghat. Therefore, only one Jallosh was seen in the ghat.
