The Electricity Regulations are uniform throughout India. Electricity Act is also same in all states, but not in case of elevators. The speed of the elevator is 1 second per meter.

Due to the lack of maintenance of the elevator, the plant may break and cause accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the lift from time to time, Prakash Patil also said on this occasion. Maharashtra Udvahan Rules 1958 Rule No. As per 4, every elevator customer is required to apply for a license to the Elevator Inspector within one month after the construction of the lift. After inspection, if everything is in order, the said lift will be given rule no. 4(2) license is issued, which is required by law to be affixed in every lift. If this certificate is not affixed in the premises of a society, corporate, then legal action can be taken against it under ‘non-licence’. Rule no. for the maintenance of lifts erected in any society, office, hospital, malls etc. As per 6, it is mandatory to give an annual maintenance contract to the government approved excavation contractor. It is directed that the said contractor should service the lift at least once in a month and eliminate the errors created by discussing with the concerned.

A lift operator must have completed at least eighteen years of age. Also he should be trained in keeping the lift working properly.
In case of accident in any lift, rule no. As per 8, information must be given in Form ‘F’ within 24 hours to the inspector’s office.
