Maratha Reservation: Another shock to the Maratha community! ‘GR’ granting benefit of IBDLS reservation canceled by High Court

Mumbai: Due to the pending issue of Maratha reservation, the benefit of economically weaker sections i.e. EWS reservation implemented under SEBC category to provide temporary relief to the youth of Maratha community in the state has also been cancelled. The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed the notification (GR) in this regard. This is considered a big blow for the Maratha community (Maratha Reservation) in the state. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Makarand Karnik has issued a GR dated 23 December 2020 while announcing the reserved decision on 6 April 2020 at the end of the hearing on the petitions.
Therefore, the youth of the Maratha community in the state will not get EWS reservation. After this, we have to see the reaction of the Maratha community. After the first stay of the Maratha reservation by the Supreme Court, the state government allowed the Maratha candidates to participate in the recruitment process of Mahavitaran by including them in the ten percent reservation of the EWS category. The state government’s GR in this regard was challenged by several candidates from the EWS category through petitions. The Bombay High Court accepted their petition today and declared the GR null and void. So the candidates from the Maratha community have been hit once again.
On September 9, 2020, the Supreme Court stayed the reservation law given to the Maratha community. After this, as a temporary measure, the central government introduced ten percent reservation for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the open category to the Maratha community. Eventually, the Supreme Court overturned the Maratha Reservation Act. Now the problems of the youth of Marathi society will increase as the GR, which provides the benefit of EWS reservation, has also been canceled by the High Court.
