Land allotment to housing society cancelled: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has annulled the land allotment made by the Maharashtra government to the Medinova Regal Cooperative Housing Society, which was meant for doctors working at Tata Memorial Hospital. The court criticized the government’s arbitrary actions during the land allocation process.

In 2000, members of Medinova Regal applied to the government for land. Doctors working at Tata Memorial Centre, a renowned cancer hospital and research institute, have been residing in Maharashtra for over 20 years without owning a home. They live far from the hospital, making it difficult to reach the hospital on time during emergencies, which was mentioned in their application.
