BJP led govt falls in Maharashtra within two days ; Devendra Fadnavis resigns as CM today

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government fell in Maharashtra on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announcing his resignation at a press conference here. Earlier in the day, Fadnavis’ deputy, Ajit Pawar had resigned as Deputy CM.

Addressing the media, Fadnavis said he would call on the Governor and formally submit his resignation. Shortly after, he drove down to Raj Bhavan and officially put in his papers.

Fadnavis said at the press conference that the mandate in the recently-concluded state elections was for the BJP. “After this, I’ll go to the Raj Bhavan and tender my resignation. I wish them all the best whoever will form the government. But that will be a very unstable government as there is a huge difference of opinions,” the CM said.
