April 14 should be celebrated as ‘National Sikh Day’, proposed in America

The Sikh community has played an important role in the development of America. There has been a demand to celebrate April 14 as ‘National Sikh Day’ in America to show respect to the Sikh community. More than 12 MPs including Indian-American MP Raja Krishnamurthy have demanded that April 14 should be declared as ‘National Sikh Day’ in the US. In this regard, a proposal has also been submitted by these MPs in the representative assembly.

In a related proposal, it advocates declaring a ‘National Sikh Day’ to show respect for the role of the Sikh community while highlighting the significant contribution of the Sikh community in the development of America. The motion, which was tabled in the House on March 28, was sponsored by MP Mary Gail Sanlon. Its co-presenters are Karen Bass, Paul Tonko, Brian K. Fitzpatrick, Daniel Muse, Eric Swalwell, Raja Krishnamurthy, Donald Norcross, Andy Kim, John Garamendi, Richard E. Neal, Brendan F. Boyle, and David G. Valadao. The proposal has been welcomed by the Sikh Caucus Committee, the Sikh Coordination Committee and the American Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (AGPC).
