Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajendra Shirtod has nabbed a driver who was transporting four brass sands by dumper after receiving two brass sands from Dusalgaon sand dune in Gangakhed taluka. A case has been registered against the driver and the owner at Gangakhed police station. Surprisingly, the revenue administration is not taking any action even though it is rampant.
Large scale illegal sand extraction has been going on from Godavari river basin in Gangakhed taluka for the last few days. In order to stop this sand extraction, the revenue administration has in the last few days auctioned some sand dunes in the taluka. It was hoped that the illegal extraction of sand would be curtailed. However, Suresh Maruti Ingle, the driver of a dumper (MH27 BX 1173) transporting four brass sands, was caught by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajendra Shirtode on the Khali Bridge on the Gangakhed-Parbhani National Highway. . After that Gangakhed police was deployed in Thane area.

Sub-divisional police officer Shirtod was suspicious of the time and date on the receipt and asked for a report from the tehsildar. However, the report was not received. A case has been registered against highway driver Suresh Maroti Ingle and dumper owner Kabu Danwate (both of Mahatpuri) at Gangakhed police station on a complaint lodged by police officer Mirza Shamshad Beg Mustafa. Property worth Rs 25 lakh 12 thousand including sand has been seized in this operation.

The villagers had gone on a hunger strike in front of the Gangakhed tehsil office complaining that sand was being extracted from the sand ghat at Jhola in Gangakhed taluka with the help of JCB. The strike was called off after written assurances of action. While illegal sand extraction is rampant, the revenue administration is pretending to be asleep.
