Mumbai: Monkeypox has entered the country even as the corona virus is coming under control. The country’s health system has been alerted after two cases of monkeypox were detected in Kerala. The Health Department has announced the guidelines.

Health Minister Veena George informed that a 31-year-old man who came to Kerala from Dubai last week was found to be infected with monkeypox. This is the second case of monkeypox in the country. The concerned patient had arrived in Kannur in Kerala from Dubai on July 13. George informed that he is undergoing treatment at Pariyam Medical College here. He said that those who came in contact with this patient are being monitored. The first case of ‘monkeypox’ was found in Kollam in Kerala on July 14. He is also undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. In this background, the Central Health Department has issued some instructions. Also, who is most at risk of monkeypox? Citizens with chronic diseases like diabetes, blood pressure are more at risk of monkeypox. The Central Health Department has appealed to these citizens to take special care. Also, the health department has also said that the symptoms appear in six to 13 days from the time of infection.

Travelers who have arrived in India in the last 21 days from countries where cases of monkeypox have been reported to have symptoms including a rash should be treated as suspected cases and quarantined and their samples sent for testing. If a monkeypox patient is found, immediate survey should be done to prevent its spread. The health department has given instructions that contact persons of the affected person should also be traced.

Symptoms and treatment of monkeypox
A two-stage infection is seen in monkeypox-affected patients. In the first stage, the main symptoms are fever, severe headache, body rash, back pain, muscle and body pain, extreme fatigue. Rashes are the main symptom. A day or two before the appearance of the rash, there is a possibility of transmission of the disease through the affected person. In the second stage, rashes start appearing on the body. This process starts about one to three days after the onset of fever. It has been noticed that the most rash occurs on the face in the disease. Gradually these rashes produce a watery fluid, followed by drying and shedding. This person can spread the infection until the rash peels off.

There is no effective treatment for this disease yet. Monkeypox viruses belong to the class of orthopoxviruses. Devi disease virus also belongs to this class. Devi’s vaccine protects against monkeypox. It is more likely to occur in people below 40 to 50 years of age.
