The Gondia Bribery Department has arrested a woman clerk while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 for land conversion. The incident took place at Amgaon tehsil office in Gondia district. The arrested woman was identified as Chhaya Vasudev Rahangdale (43).

Complainant’s ancestral farm land at Sawangi is in mother’s name. However, due to the death of the mother, the land was inherited by the sister and the complainant. The land was not in the name of the complainant even though the sister had submitted the certificate of relinquishment and applied for change. The complainant went to the Amgaon tehsil office to find out why it did not happen. There, the accused woman, a top clerk, demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant for making changes.

However, the complainant lodged a complaint directly with the Gondia Bribery Office. After confirming the complaint, the bribery department set a trap and arrested the accused woman clerk while accepting Rs 6,000 as a compromise amount. He has been prosecuted under the Bribery Act 1988. The arrest of a female bribe-taker in the district has sparked controversy in the district.
