The state will now have a prepaid card for electricity bills, hints Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar

Baramati |

While load shedding crisis is on the rise in the state due to coal shortage, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has hinted at supplying electricity to the state through prepaid cards. He hoped that the prepaid card scheme would reduce the incidence of power theft. This means that just like recharging the mobile starts calling, after recharging the card, you will be able to use as much power as you need.

Ajit Pawar was on a tour of Baramati on Sunday. When Pawar came to inaugurate various development works in Korhale Khurd in Baramati taluka, he expressed concern over the growing power crisis. ‘The coal crisis in the state has created a power shortage. The alternative is load shedding. We tried to import some coal from abroad. But our power plants are such that they do not run 100% of foreign coal. Now the demand for three to four thousand megawatts of electricity has increased as the intensity of summer is increasing. So he tried to get more money from outside the state. However, there is a shortage of electricity in the country at present.

Efforts are being made to generate electricity from the existing water resources. However, it is also necessary to pay the electricity bill used by the people. Currently, the state government is introducing the option of prepaid cards as the incidence of power theft has increased. Ajit Pawar has informed that the government is thinking of using electricity by recharging the card as required. He further said, “Now we have to close the figure. The government is waiting for the numbers. If people want good service, they have to change their mindset. The problem of electricity will have to be solved by using new technology, said Pawar.
