Pune: For the first time, Pune has been included in the top 100 cities in the world with the best environment for startups. In this year’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index, Pune has been ranked 90th out of 14 cities. Startup Blink, an Israeli organization, has recently released a report on the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2022. The report lists 100 countries and 1,000 cities with a “startup-friendly” environment. Countries and cities were selected on the basis of startup quality, quality and business environment.
According to the report, India ranks 19th in the list of top 100 countries with complementary culture for startups, while Pune ranks first among the top 100 cities with the best startup ecosystems. Pune ranks fourth in the list of cities with ‘startup friendly’ ecosystems in the country and in South Asia. The city of Pune is an ideal destination for transportation, e-commerce and retail and educational ‘startups’, the report said. There are 61 startups in the city, 25 startups in the e-commerce and retail sector and 19 startups in the education sector. The top five countries in the index are the United States, Britain, Israel, Canada and Sweden. San Francisco Bay in the United States ranks first among the top five cities, followed by New York and London, and second and third, respectively.

The city of Bangalore, which has the best environment for startups in the country, is ranked eighth in the list of top 100 best startup ecosystems. New Delhi is at 13th position in the list, while Mumbai has slipped one place to 17th position. After Pune, Hyderabad has also got a place in the list of top 100 cities. Apart from this, 32 cities including Chennai (102), Jaipur (212), Patna (218), Ahmedabad (223) and Goa (272) are also included in the top 1000 cities in the index.

Efforts that have been going on for many years to inculcate a startup culture in the city are bearing fruit. Industries Association, Savitribai Phule Pune University etc. have made valuable contributions. Many colleges have started startup incubation centers. There are five to six unicorn startups in Pune. Pune’s ‘startup’ and innovation-friendly environment will attract investors from all over the world.
