Pimpri Chinchwad’s best performance in “Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization”

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Smart City have excelled in the “Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization” competition organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Three different awards, “Open Data Week”, “Climate Change” and “Place Making” were presented at Surat today for this achievement. Honored on the 19th. The conference ‘Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization’ was organized in Surat (Gujarat) from 18th to 19th April, 2022. The award ceremony was held at the hands of Kunal Kumar, Joint Secretary and Mission Director of Smart City Mission for the best performance of Pimpri Chinchwad. Municipal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Smart City Rajesh Patil and Co-Chief Executive Officer Nilkanth Poman, Executive Engineer Bapu Saheb Gaikwad accepted the award.

Pimpri Chinchwad performed best in ‘Open Data Week Event’. In the “Place Making” category, the “8 to 80 Park” at Sudarshan Chowk, which was completed in 75 hours, was awarded the Place Making Marathon winner. Also, 4 out of 5 stars in “Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework 2.0” for performing well in 28 criteria set in five categories: Energy and Green Building, Urban Planning, Green Cover and Biodiversity, Mobility and Air Quality, Water Management and Waste Management. He has been honored with the “Climate Change” award for his outstanding contribution in maintaining the ecological balance.

Earlier, Commissioner Rajesh Patil gave guidance on “Human Scrolling the Public Realm”. He informed about the measures being implemented for the citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad and the working procedures of the administration. Also, Bapusaheb Gaikwad, Executive Engineer, NMC, elaborated on his experiences during the implementation of Street for People and India Cycle for Change on “Path-Way to Net Zero”.

The ‘Open Data Week’ event was organized across the country from 17 to 21 January 2022 as part of the Independence Ka Amrut Mahotsav activities under the Smart Cities Mission to promote innovation and embrace open data in India’s urban ecosystem. A total of 62 cities had participated in this competition. So, 52 cities had uploaded datasets and data stories on Scodup. Also, 38 cities hosted “Data Day”. The participating cities contributed more than 1300 datasets and published 25 stories on Skodep. The Data Day event saw a huge turnout of around 10,000 stakeholders from government agencies, educational institutions, industry bodies, start-ups, media houses and citizens. The 10 best performing cities are selected after evaluation based on various parameters between the two initiatives. Among them, Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City has been selected as one of the ‘Best Performers’ in the Open Data Week event. Commissioner Rajesh Patil expressed the view that this honor was given due to the participation of the citizens and the hard work of the officials and employees of the Municipal Corporation and Smart City.
