Nagpur |

The water worship of the Gosekhurd project, which has been pending for more than thirty years, has gained momentum. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and NCP’s Sharad Pawar (sharad pawar) will be seen on the same stage at the event to be held on Tuesday, May 3 at Pawani in Bhandara district. The event has caught the attention of political circles as the two leaders are coming together as the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties in the state are personally criticizing each other on various issues.

After the central government gave Gosekhurd the status of a national project, it was included in the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme. Both the Central and State Governments have provided substantial funds for the completion of this project. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are also far away from the project. With the exception of 5 years of Fadnavis government, NCP has had water resources department since 1999. Therefore, the impression of NCP is visible on this program. Apart from Pawar and Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, MP Praful Patel, departmental ministers and MPs, MLAs will be present at the event.

Rajendra Mohite, Executive Director, Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation and Ashish Devgade, Chief Engineer, have been following up with the Central and State Governments for the last one and half years. The issue of rehabilitation was also resolved. Earlier this year, on January 9, the Gosekhurd Dam reached a record high of 40 billion cubic feet. Earlier, in 2008, 33 billion cubic feet of water was stored. About 7 billion cubic feet of water was being carried away. Now the corporation has succeeded in collecting it.

Another Rs 4,000 crore is required

Another Rs 4,000 crore is required to operate the Gosekhurd project at full capacity. Currently, one and a half lakh hectares of land has come under irrigation due to Gosekhurd water. If the government provides funds, all the works will be completed by December next year and the irrigation capacity of 2.5 lakh hectares will be achieved, the sources said.
