Amravati: Sunday was a nightmare for the youths who came to have fun at Nandgaon Peth Dam. The young man who went for a swim in the dam drowned and the other young man who went to save him jumped into the dam. However, the unfortunate incident of drowning of both of them took place in the Valki dam here on Sunday.
According to the information received, Vinay Shivdas Chavan, (age 20), Abhishek Pradip Kuralkar, (age 21) are the names of the youths who died in the incident. While some youths from Amravati and Rahatgaon came to have fun on the dam, Abhishek Pradip Kuralkar, resident of the dam. Rahatgaon came down to swim in the water. However, Vinay Shivdas Chavan, who was present at the spot, saw that he drowned due to unpredictability of the water. Nishigandha Colony Amravati jumped into the water to save Abhishek without thinking for a moment. But both of them ended up drowning.
As soon as the Nandgaon Peth police got information about the incident, they immediately rushed to the spot and called the disaster management. The disaster management team also arrived on the scene. Disaster management team succeeded in removing both the bodies at around 6 pm. Both the bodies were sent to the District General Hospital here. Police personnel including Nandgaon Peth police station inspector Pravin Kale were present at the spot. The incident is causing a stir.
This is the second incident of the year and four youths have lost their lives here till date. The department has not taken any measures for the safety of the dam and a large number of youngsters visit the dam every day.
