Pimpri-Chinchwad : Power Outage in ‘IT City’! 200 IT Companies Affected, 66,000 Customers Hit

Power Disruption in Hinjewadi, Pimpri-Saudagar, Sangvi, and Rahatani Areas from Midnight

Pimpri-Chinchwad: Due to a malfunction at Mahapareshan’s high-voltage Rahatani 132 KV substation, power supply was disrupted in Pimpri-Saudagar, Sangvi, and Rahatani areas from midnight on Tuesday to 3 AM on Wednesday. The power outage, which lasted for three hours, caused rotational power cuts of 30 to 90 minutes. This malfunction affected 200 IT companies in Hinjewadi, as well as approximately 66,000 residential, commercial, and other customers in the Hinjewadi and Wakad areas for 37 minutes.

At Mahapareshan’s Rahatani 132/22 KV substation, smoke was observed coming from the 50 MVA current transformer at midnight on Tuesday. Upon inspection, engineers determined that the transformer needed to be urgently replaced, and the replacement process began. However, to carry out this work, Mahavitaran had to shut off the power supply from the 22 KV lines, leading to a shortage of 22 MW of power. Attempts were made to make up for this shortfall through alternative arrangements, but due to the hot weather at night, the demand for electricity surged, and load management could not be carried out. As a result, areas including Pimpri-Saudagar, Sangvi, Rahatani, Kalewadi, Vishal Nagar, and Kasptwasti experienced rotational load shedding for 30 to 90 minutes from midnight to 2:30 AM on Wednesday.

As a result, power supply to approximately 200 IT companies in Hinjewadi and around 66,200 residential, commercial, and other customers in the Hinjewadi and Wakad areas was interrupted for 37 minutes.
