Doctors, nurses working on contract basis without pay for three months; Work stoppage movement

Pimpri: Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s new Jijamata, New Thergaon Hospital contract doctors, staffers have not been paid for three months. Doctors, staff nurses and other employees had gone on strike this morning (Tuesday) alleging that the contractor was paying different dates for their salaries. As a result, the ambulance service was disrupted for some time.

The corporation had hired doctors and staffers in the first and second wave of Corona. After that, the municipal administration overcame the opposition and appointed contractors to provide medical and paramedical staff to various hospitals. Through them began to hire employees on a contract basis. Doctors, nurses and other staff were hired through outsourcing to the municipal hospital, but the problem of non-payment of salaries to these staff started from the very beginning. Salary is not paid by the contractor for three months.

Doctors and nurses have to resort to strike to get their rightful pay. After that the exhausted salary is paid. Again the salary is exhausted. The employees protested several times in this regard. Employees have to agitate for salary every three months. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. Doctors and nurses working on contract basis have not been paid for the last three months. Therefore, the employees of New Jijamata Hospital and Thergaon Hospital went on strike today. This had an effect on patient care for some time. Employees demanded immediate payment of three months’ overdue salary. The agitation was called off after the contractor assured.

Head of Medical Department Dr. Laxman Gofne said, “Three months salary of the employees working on contract basis in the municipal hospital is exhausted. Employees had gathered to demand pay. He did not stop working. There was no effect on patient care. Notice has been issued to the contractor agency regarding payment of salaries to the employees.
