Pune-Daund and Satara routes’ DEMU trains outdated; Passengers demand 2 MEMUs
Due to the unavailability of MEMU trains for the Pune division, passengers are enduring unnecessary inconvenience.
Pune: The Pune-Daund and Pune-Satara routes are currently operated by DEMU trains, which are outdated and prone to frequent breakdowns due to their age. These DEMUs consist of only 10 coaches, which are often insufficient, leading to overcrowding. As a result, passengers have been persistently demanding the introduction of MEMU trains on these routes.
Despite the ongoing demand, the Pune division has not received MEMU trains, causing unnecessary hardship for the commuters. The passengers have faced consistent delays and disruptions due to the breakdowns of these old DEMUs. Therefore, railway officials are making efforts to replace the DEMUs with MEMUs. However, the lack of MEMU trains has forced passengers traveling on the Daund and Satara routes to face repeated issues, including breakdowns that can cause delays of 2-3 hours.
The rural passengers, in particular, are experiencing significant inconvenience, with their time wasted during such delays. Consequently, there has been an increasing call for the introduction of MEMU trains to alleviate the situation.
