Cooperative Societies Election: New Year’s time for the delayed elections of housing societies!
Moratorium Expired: State Co-operative Election Authority Begins Process

Pune: The State Cooperative Elections to Begin in the New Year After Delays Due to Various Factors
The long-delayed cooperative elections in the state, which were postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections, the monsoon season, and the Model Code of Conduct for the Legislative Assembly elections, will finally take place at the start of the new year. The state government had postponed the elections for cooperative housing societies and other cooperative institutions until December 31, 2024. With this deadline approaching, the Maharashtra State Cooperative Election Authority will begin the election process for the pending cooperative elections from Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, the tenure of executive committees in various housing societies in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad has ended. The election process, which was paused due to the “status quo” order issued by the state’s cooperative department, will now resume from January 1.
The state cooperative department has issued instructions to the election authority to start the election process for all eligible cooperative institutions, including housing societies, dairy cooperatives, market committees, district banks, and credit societies. However, elections will not be held for cooperative institutions that are under judicial restriction.
Pending Elections for 29,429 Cooperative Institutions in the State
In 2024-25, elections for 29,429 cooperative institutions are pending in the state. Of these, the election process for 7,109 institutions had started in October but was halted due to the ongoing elections for the Legislative Assembly. The cooperative department had initially postponed the elections until December 31, 2024, to facilitate the election preparations and the deployment of officials for the Legislative Assembly elections.
