लोकसंख्येच्या बाबतीत येत्या आठ वर्षात म्हणजेच २०२७ पर्यंत भारत चीनला मागे टाकणार असं संयुक्त राष्ट्राने प्रकाशित केलेल्या अहवालात म्हटलं आहे. संयुक्त राष्ट्राच्या आर्थिक आणि सामाजिक कामकाज विभागाने एक अहवाल सादर केला आहे. या विभागाअंतर्ग येणाऱ्या लोकसंख्येसंदर्भात काम करणाऱ्या गटाने ‘The World Population 2019: Highlights’ या नावाने हा अहवाल प्रकाशित केला आहे. या अहवालातील आकडेवारीनुसार भारत हा २०२७ पर्यंत जगातला सर्वाधिक लोकसंख्या असलेला देश असू शकतो असे म्हटले आहे. ही बातमी समोर आल्यानंतर ट्विटवर भारतामध्ये लोकसंख्या नियंत्रणासंदर्भात कायदा आणावा की नाही यावरुन चर्चा रंगली आहे. #PopulationControlLaw हा हॅशटॅग ट्विटवरील टॉप ट्रेण्डींग हॅशटॅगच्या यादीत दुपारपासून दिसू लागला आहे.
अनेकांनी #PopulationControlLaw हा हॅशटॅग वापरून लोकसंख्येसंदर्भात भारताचे काय धोरण असावे याबद्दल आपले मत व्यक्त केले आहे. काहींनी देशातील सगळ्या योजना सुरळीत चालू राहण्यासाठी आणि त्याचा सर्वांना लाभ होण्यासाठी लोकसंख्या नियंत्रण कायदा हवा असं मत नोंदवले आहे.

दरम्यान, संयुक्त राष्ट्राच्या अहवालानुसार पुढील ३० वर्षात जगाच्या लोकसंख्येत दोन अब्जांपर्यंत वाढ होऊ शकते. २०५० पर्यंत जगाची लोकसंख्या ही ७.७ अब्जांवरून ९.७ अब्जांवर पोहचू शकते असाही अंदाज या अहवालात वर्तवण्यात आला आहे. २०५० या वर्षापर्यंत लोकसंख्येत जितकी वाढ होईल त्यापैकी अर्धी वाढ ही भारत, नायजेरिया, पाकिस्तान, इथिओपिया, टांझानिया, इंडोनेशिया, इजिप्त आणि अमेरिका या देशांमध्ये होण्याचा अंदाजही या अहवालात वर्तवण्यात आला आहे. एएनआय या वृत्तसंस्थेने या संदर्भातले वृत्त दिले आहे.
