Pune:A tragic incident occurred on Friday at the Kashid beach near Murud-Janjira, where the headmaster of a school from Pune drowned. The deceased has been identified as Dharmendra Deshmukh, aged 56.

During the Christmas holidays, the beaches of Murud and Kashid were crowded with tourists. A group of 11 people from Mahatma Jyotirao High School in Pisoli, Haveli taluka of Pune, had come to visit the Kashid beach. Among them were teachers and the headmaster. Many people entered the water to swim. While swimming, Dharmendra Deshmukh was pulled into deeper water. He remained underwater for a long time. Eventually, lifeguards on the shore pulled him out of the water and rushed him to the Borli health center. He was later transferred to the Alibaug district hospital for further treatment, but unfortunately, he passed away before receiving any medical attention.

This incident has been reported to the Murud police. Meanwhile, due to the Christmas holidays, the number of tourists in Murud taluka has significantly increased, and the beaches are packed. During high tide, many tourists enjoy swimming in the water, but such accidents occur due to the unpredictable nature of the sea. The Kashid village panchayat has put up notice boards for tourists, but these warnings are often ignored, leading to such tragic incidents.
