Gujarat gave a package to Vedanta Foxconn company that was 12 thousand crores less than Maharashtra

Why did this project go to Gujarat anyway?
Maharashtra had announced a package of as much as 39 thousand crores for the project
MUMBAI: Many questions are being raised as to why Vedanta Foxconn’s proposed semiconductor and display fabrication project in Maharashtra was shifted to Gujarat. When the state Industries Minister Uday Samant was asked about this, he only defended his government. But when asked why the project went to Gujarat, Uday Samant refrained from talking, saying, ‘This question should be asked to the head of the Vedanta Group’. Uday Samant said that only the head of Vedanta, Anil Aggarwal, can tell why he suffered losses and went to Gujarat.

Uday Samant was speaking at a press conference held in Mumbai on Wednesday. At this time, he claimed that the Shinde-Fadnavis government took swift action for the Vedanta Foxconn project as soon as it came to power. The state government held a high power committee meeting on July 15 and announced a package worth Rs 39,000 crore for the Vedanta Foxconn project. The economic package offered by Maharashtra to Vedanta Foxconn was definitely better than the states of Gujarat, Telangana and Karnataka. Our land in Talegaon was also better than Dholera in Gujarat. Apart from this, other facilities in Talegaon were also better than Gujarat. However, Uday Samant said that he does not understand why Vedanta Group chose Gujarat for this project. Due to this cautious stance of Uday Samant, some more questions have been raised.

On the other hand, former Industries Minister Subhash Desai also held a press conference and claimed that the site of Talegaon has been decided for the Vedanta Foxconn project. Subhash Desai was asked whether Gujarat gave Vedanta Foxconn a better package than Maharashtra. On this, Subhash Desai said that as far as I know, Gujarat has given Vedanta Foxconn company a package that is 12 thousand crores less than Maharashtra. Still, why this project went to Gujarat, one should think, said Subhash Desai.

What exactly did Uday Samant say?
The claim by Aditya Thackeray and Subhash Desai that all negotiations were completed in January is false. Foxconn Company had sent a letter to four states namely Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Telangana on January 5, 2022. At that time, we were asked about what facilities you can provide us. After that there was no movement from Mahavikas Aghadi. This project would not have gone through Maharashtra if the high power committee had held a meeting and given a financial package to Foxconn. After coming to power, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself held a meeting in this regard in the Ministry. After that, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also had a discussion with Vedanta chief Anil Agarwal. At that time, Agarwal said that the state government did not sign any MoU with us nor did the meeting of the High Power Committee take place. No entrepreneur believes until the high power committee meets. This meeting was held on 15 July 2022. At that time a package of 38831 crores was approved. However, Uday Samant said that we are sorry that this project could not come to Maharashtra even after that.
