As Ganeshotsav is just eight days away, the traffic of customers has increased in the famous pen market. Sculptors here said that with the start of the banned bullock cart races this year, there is more demand for the idols of Gauri-Ganpati mounted on bullock carts. A sculptor said that there is demand for Asha sculptors from Odisha, Raipur, Meerut, Kolhapur, Dombivli, Pune. Along with this, due to the demand for idols of Peshwa Ganapati, Ganapati in the form of Vitthal, Radha-Krishna, Dagdusheth Ganapati wearing gold ornaments, Ganapati in Agri-Koli garb, these idols are currently being made in the factories here.

Pen is considered to be the world’s home of Ganesha sculptors and there are more than a thousand Ganesha factories in the taluk. Idols from one foot to 10 to 12 feet are made here. As the manufacturers here make attractive idols in various forms, the idols here are in demand from abroad as well. For the past two years, the restrictions had created many difficulties for the sculptors. But now with the relaxation of the restrictions, the sculptors have got a relief as there is demand from small size idols to big size idols as well. A factory worker from Tambadshet in Pen taluka said that due to the recent lifting of the ban on bullock cart races, there is a special demand for idols of Lord Ganesha and Gauri seated on bullock carts this year. In this there is a demand for such idols from Odisha, Raipur, Karnataka, Hyderabad, Kolhapur along with bullock cart racing lovers from Dombivli.

Nice and attractive idol
A bullock cart of about two and a half to three feet length is prepared and a greedy idol of Gauri dressed in paithni saree, royal feta, nath and gold ornaments is being prepared. Also, a graceful and attractive idol of Lord Ganesha wearing diamond ornaments and Peshwai feta will be mounted on this bullock cart.
