
Indian Women’s Cricket Team Defeats West Indies by 49 Runs in First T20 Match
Navi Mumbai: The Indian women’s cricket team displayed excellent teamwork as they defeated West Indies by 49 runs in the first T20 match, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
At the DY Patil Stadium, India was invited to bat first and posted a total of 195/4 in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues. West Indies, in response, managed to score only 146/7 in 20 overs, handing India a comfortable victory.
West Indies’ Kiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin fought hard with the bat, scoring 49 and 52 runs respectively. However, their efforts were not enough as the rest of the team failed to contribute. Titas Sadhu took 3 wickets, while Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav picked up 2 wickets each.
Earlier, Smriti Mandhana scored 54 runs off 33 balls, and Jemimah Rodrigues made 73 runs off 35 balls. Smriti and Uma Chhetri (24) gave India a solid start with a partnership of 50 runs. After receiving a life, Smriti went on to score her half-century, and together with Jemimah, they added 81 runs for the second wicket.
