Hadapsar: Control of Stray Dogs and Treatment of Injured Patients is PMC’s Responsibility, Yet Neglected
In Hadapsar, controlling stray dogs is the responsibility of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and treating injured patients should also be handled by the corporation. However, these responsibilities are not being met. At Annasaheb Magar Hospital in Hadapsar, a rabies vaccine was unavailable, and when the injured patient went to Sassoon Hospital, they found the vaccine was also not available, forcing the patient to rush to another hospital.
On Saturday morning, Professor Kaluram Jagtap (70) from Sadasatranali was bitten by a rabid dog, severely injuring his thigh and hip. He rushed to a government hospital for treatment, but after waiting for two hours at Magarpatta Hospital, he was told the vaccine was unavailable and was directed to Sassoon Hospital. Upon reaching Sassoon, he was told that the required injection was also unavailable. He was then referred to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Yerwada. Due to the weekend, there was delay and reluctance, but eventually, the injection was administered after persistent requests. Jagtap expressed frustration over the unhelpful responses from Sassoon’s doctors. At Sassoon, the doctors informed him that the vaccine had been unavailable for the past four months, and stray dogs were rampant in Sadasatranali. Attempts to contact officials at Annasaheb Magar Hospital were unsuccessful.
