Dombivali: Residents of the Deshmukh Homes complex in Dombivali have been plagued by water problems for the past several months. Even after spending lakhs of rupees for water, water is not available. Finally, the women of Deshmukh Homes, fed up with the daily grind, have called for a hunger strike.
Deshmukh Homes is a large complex in the Tata Power area east of Dombivli. There are 1350 flat owners living in this complex. The water problem in the area, including 27 villages in KDMC, has been getting worse for the last several months. Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation from time to time gave us various schemes for water. Accordingly, from 2016, at our own expense, from taking water line to increasing tapping diameter, to zoning, we have planned at our own cost by spending lakhs of rupees. After planning the solution, initially 8 to 10 days 800 to 900 units of water is shown and then it is brought back to 200 to 300 units. People’s representatives, MIDC, met the municipal officials about this, but the question has not been resolved.
On the water issue, the locals asked MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, Municipal Administration, MIDC officials all met. Finally, correspondence has been sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. But since there is no way out, Vandana Sonawane and other women have taken up the weapon of fast unto death. It remains to be seen what the administration will do.
What does KDMC have to say?
Says 150 mm to solve the water problem here. A diameter pipe connection is provided. MLA Raju Patil has provided MLA funds for improving the internal distribution channel and internal zoning of the complex. The estimate has been prepared accordingly. The buildings in the complex have booster pumps connected to the distribution channel of the complex and notices have been issued to the concerned to remove them.
Also, the municipality is pursuing the removal of booster pump installed by MIDC at Pingara Hotel. According to the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation, work is underway to start water supply at Davdi and Golvali within the stipulated time from the pump of the complex at Regency Anantar.
In 2016, we all collected Rs. 13 lakhs and brought the pipeline at our own cost, but we did not get water properly. Corresponded frequently. We are on a fast unto death today as water is not coming even after following up.

- What MIDC has to say
According to MIDC, it is the responsibility of Sarvasvi Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation to supply water to this area and MIDC has not made any water cut. On the contrary, water supply has increased.
