Maruti Bhapkar submits a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner to control stray dogs in the Mohannagar, Akurdi area

Pimpri Chinchwad | Maruti Bhapkar, former Corporator, has demanded the control of stray dogs in areas such as Mohannagar, Kalbhor Nagar, Akurdi, Chinchwad Station, Ramnagar, Mahatma Phule Nagar, Datt Nagar, Shankar Nagar, Vidyanagar, Parshuram, Anand Nagar, and Indiranagar. Bhapkar has submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shekhar Singh, in this regard.

In the memorandum, Bhapkar stated that there is a large presence of stray dogs in the areas of Mohannagar, Kalbhor Nagar, Akurdi, Chinchwad Station, Ramnagar, Mahatma Phule Nagar, Datt Nagar, Shankar Nagar, Vidyanagar, Parshuram, Anand Nagar, and Indiranagar. This has posed a threat to the lives of students, women, senior citizens, and workers in the area. These stray dogs bark loudly at night, disturbing the sleep of the residents. Young children get scared and wake up. The dogs run towards children and women, creating a sense of fear in the area.

Additionally, the stray dogs chase after the workers’ vehicles during their commute to and from their jobs. At times, the dogs attempt to bite them, causing workers to drive their vehicles recklessly. This has led to several accidents in the past, and there is a high likelihood of a serious accident occurring in the future.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has issued tenders for the control of stray dogs through the Animal Husbandry Department, and a contract was awarded for catching and sterilizing the stray dogs. The corporation has spent crores of rupees for this initiative. However, instead of reducing the number of dogs, the population seems to be increasing.

Therefore, Bhapkar has requested that the Municipal Commissioner personally look into this matter and issue strict orders to the concerned department to take appropriate measures. He urged the issue to be resolved without delay, warning that if a major accident happens resulting in the death of a citizen, the responsibility will rest entirely with the authorities, as stated in his memorandum.
