Pimpri: The cooperative department in Pimpri-Chinchwad has taken strict action against several housing societies for irregularities and financial mismanagement. The executive committees of these societies have been suspended.
Complaints of arbitrary actions, non-compliance with the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, and financial irregularities have been leveled against these housing societies located in Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, Chinchwad, Alandi Road and Vadmukhwad.
The cooperative department has found that these societies have failed to conduct regular audits, hold annual general meetings on time, and maintain proper financial records. Moreover, complaints of favoritism and disregard for the interests of all members have also been received.
Rahul Tapkir, a complainant against Genesis Society, stated that the society’s office bearers repeatedly violated the provisions of the cooperative society act. Consequently, the deputy registrar of cooperative societies canceled the membership of the society’s office bearers.
Suresh Ghodke, chairman of the society, has indicated that they will appeal against this decision.
Dattatray Deshmukh, president of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Housing Federation, attributed these issues to the increasing size and complexity of housing societies. He suggested that while minor errors or oversights could be overlooked, strict action should be taken against financial irregularities.
The cooperative department has received numerous complaints against these societies and has taken a serious view of the matter. The deputy registrar, Dr. Sheetal Patil, has suspended the membership of 13 office bearers of Genesis Housing Society for a period of one year.
This action is expected to serve as a deterrent to other housing societies that may be indulging in similar practices. The cooperative department has urged all societies to comply with the provisions of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act and to ensure transparency and accountability in their operations.
