‘Ahmednagar renamed’; Gopichand Padalkar’s letter to Uddhav Thackeray

Ahmednagar: Along with Aurangabad, the demand for renaming Ahmednagar and the controversy over it is also old. Now BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar has jumped into this controversy. He has sent a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding that Ahmednagar be renamed as Ahilyanagari. For this, he has referred to the event held at Choundi on the occasion of Ahilya Devi Holkar’s birthday and the incident of preventing her from going to Choundi.

There is an old demand to change the name of Ahmednagar. Pro-Hindu organizations have suggested the name Ambikanagar. Recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has started using this name in their correspondence. Ahilya lovers have been demanding the name Ahilya Nagar from the very beginning. Since Choundi is the birthplace of Ahilya Devi, there is a demand to name this district after her. In the meanwhile, like Aurangabad, the issue was cold. After the role of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray, this issue has resurfaced.

Now BJP MLA Padalkar has sent a letter to the Chief Minister regarding the renaming of Ahmednagar. It says that on the birth anniversary of Ahilya Devi Holkar, the recently passed Punyashlok at Choundi, Ahmednagar, the Mughals of Pawar’s grandfather and grandson misused the police force and prevented Ahilya Devi devotees from visiting Choundi.

Ahilya Devi, the mother of Hindu Goddess Punyashlok, was born. So what history are you going to inherit now? Mughal or Holkarshahi? By taking the decision to rename ‘Ahilyanagar’ immediately, it is expected that you will prove that you are a self-respecting Chief Minister and not running on your uncle’s remote control. Padalkar has also given a hint in the letter that otherwise this Bahujan Jaga has become organized.
