Ignoring the dust, work on 105 construction projects stopped

Notices have been issued to construction projects that do not take measures to reduce the amount of dust

Pune: The level of dust in areas with ongoing construction projects in the city has increased. Notices have been issued to construction projects that have failed to implement measures to reduce dust. On the first day, work on 91 construction sites was halted, and on the second day, work on 14 sites was stopped, bringing the total to 105 projects suspended over two days.

Large-scale construction in the city has been contributing to significant dust pollution. To address this, construction professionals and architects were instructed to implement dust control measures. Emails were sent to the concerned parties, urging them to follow the guidelines set by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. However, these instructions were ignored. Engineers from the construction department surveyed the sites, and notices were issued to projects that did not take dust control measures. The notices referenced Sections 267 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, instructing the immediate stoppage of work. It was also stated that if work continued, legal action would be taken through the police.

Slower Action on the Second Day

The enforcement action slowed down on the second day, as evidenced by the reduction in the number of halted projects.
