Today’s hearing on OBC reservation postponed; Now hearing on Monday

New Delhi: Today’s (Thursday) hearing on the petition filed in the Supreme Court against the law taken by the government itself by enacting the ward formation authority from the State Election Commission has also been postponed. The Maharashtra government will now submit a detailed affidavit to the court on Monday (25). The final hearing is set for Monday. Therefore, everyone’s attention is focused on what will happen on Monday, including those who want to contest the municipal elections.

As per the order of the State Election Commission, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Administration had formed wards for the 2022 elections in a three-member manner. The draft ward structure for the forthcoming elections was published on 1 February 2022. There were 45 wards of 3 members and 1 ward of 4 members. Objections were also raised on the formation of this ward and a hearing was also held on it. The report of the hearing was also sent to the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court rejected the report of the Backward Classes Commission on OBC reservation. Therefore, elections are not to be held without OBC reservation. For this, the law was amended to take away the power of ward formation from the State Election Commission and take it to the government. Accordingly, the ward structure made by the commission was canceled by the government. Therefore, the government has also given orders to form new wards.

Meanwhile, the amendment law has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Petitions have been filed in the court against the state government’s law. The petition is scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court on April 7, today. All eyes were on today’s hearing. However, today’s court hearing has also been postponed. The state government will now submit a detailed affidavit to the court on Monday.

A final hearing on the petition will be held in four days, on April 25. Municipal elections will be the future based on court decisions. Municipal elections can be declared immediately if the court repeals the state government’s law. So now everyone’s attention is on Monday’s hearing.
