Selection Trials for Maharashtra Kesari to be Held on January 10 in Saswad
Female Wrestlers Must Contact by January 3
Saswad: A selection trial for the Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Competition 2025 will be held on Friday, January 10, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Wrestling Complex in Saswad (Purandar Taluka), as informed by Raviendra Jagtap, Secretary of the Purandar Taluka Wrestling Association. District-level selection trials will be held on January 18 and 19 in Kondhwa Budruk (Pune), but the preliminary trials for selecting wrestlers from the taluka will be conducted earlier.
A meeting regarding the planning of the selection trials was held in Saswad, as per the guidance of former MLA Sanjay Jagtap, the founder president of the Taluka Wrestling Association. The meeting was attended by several members, including Vice-President Rajendra Jagtap, Members Ashok Zhende, Pandurang Kamthe, Tatya Zhende, Santosh Sonawane, Vinod Jagtap, Balasaheb Kolte, Gulab Gaikwad, Ramesh Jagtap, Chandrakant Girme, Raghunath Jagtap, and Mauli Khopde, Manager of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Wrestling Complex.
The selection trials will include categories for both senior and junior wrestlers. To encourage junior wrestling, this year, the Pune District Selection Trials will also include district-level competitions for younger wrestlers. On January 10, wrestler registration and weigh-ins will be held from 9 to 10 AM, and the 11th edition of the competition will be inaugurated by former MLA Sanjay Jagtap at 11 AM. The selection trials will take place from 12 PM to 9 PM.
The weight categories for the competition are as follows:
Junior Category: 25kg, 28kg, 32kg, 36kg, 40kg, 44kg, 48kg, 51kg, 55kg, 60kg.
For junior wrestlers, the birth date must be between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2014. Original documents such as Aadhaar card or passport must be provided as age proof. Wrestlers must be registered with the District Wrestling Association; if not, they can register by submitting an application and registration fee.
Senior Category (Gadi and Mati Events):
57kg, 61kg, 65kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 86kg, 92kg, 97kg, and Maharashtra Kesari Weight Category: 86kg to 125kg.
Women’s Category:
50kg, 53kg, 55kg, 57kg, 59kg, 62kg, 65kg, 68kg, 72kg, with the Maharashtra Kesari weight category between 65kg and 76kg.
Female Wrestlers Must Contact by January 3
As the Senior Women’s State Championship and the Maharashtra Kesari Women’s Event for 2024-25 are scheduled for January 4 at Janta Raja Wrestling Center in Lonikand (Haveli Taluka), female wrestlers from Purandar Taluka wishing to participate must contact the Chhatrapati Shivaji Wrestling Complex in Saswad by January 3. Female wrestlers must be born in 2004 or earlier to participate. Wrestlers born in 2005 or 2006 must provide a medical certificate and parental consent to enter the competition.
