Will Congress withdraw one candidate at the last minute? Meeting of key leaders of Mahavikas Aghadi begins
Mumbai: With just a few minutes to go before the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state, the Mahavikas Aghadi faction is moving fast. Shiv Sena and NCP have demanded that Congress should withdraw the nomination of one of the two candidates.
Voting for 10 seats in the Legislative Council will be held on June 20 in the state. Out of these, BJP has the required number of votes for four seats and Mahavikas Aghadi has the votes for five seats. But there is a possibility of a colorful fight for the tenth place. Against this backdrop, it is being said that Shiv Sena and NCP have taken a stand that Congress should withdraw its second candidate to avoid a rift in the Rajya Sabha elections. However, no official information has come to light yet.
What exactly is the equation for the Legislative Council?
The Legislative Council has a quota of 27 votes for one seat. The polls will be held in secret. Therefore, not only independents, but also Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena MLAs are not able to see who they are voting for, so the votes of these parties are also likely to split. There is not much concern about the election of four BJP candidates.
However, BJP leaders are now saying that we will easily elect the fifth candidate Prasad Lad and the sixth candidate Sadabhau Khot. If both of them remain in the fray even after the withdrawal deadline has passed, then BJP will do anything to create a big trap against Eknath Khadse and will also go after Padvi to target Shiv Sena, BJP leaders are privately saying. Amsha Padvi belongs to the tribal community and does not have much contact with MLAs. Another Shiv Sena candidate, Sachin Ahir, is a former minister and has friends in all parties. As the fifth BJP candidate Prasad Lad is also a friend of Ahir, it is being said in political circles that the BJP will not make much effort to defeat Ahir’s votes.
