Pimpri-Chinchwad: Most of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials and employees, who were assigned election duties during the state assembly elections, were occupied with election-related work. The elections are over, and the model code of conduct has also ended. However, these officials and employees have still not resumed their duties. As a result, there is a noticeable lack of staff at the Municipal Corporation building and regional offices, leading to a noticeable silence in the offices. This situation has persisted for the past one and a half months.
A total of around 4,000 officials and employees from the municipal corporation were assigned to election work for the Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Bhosari assembly constituencies. They were tasked with responsibilities in various election-related departments.
A total of 3,962 municipal officers and employees worked during the election. Of these, 2,352 were Class II and III officials and employees, while 1,610 were Class IV employees. Additionally, 1,215 employees were assigned to various departments such as PRO, FPO, OPO, BLO, ZO, and MO.
For the Chinchwad constituency, 1,140 officers and employees were involved, for the Pimpri constituency, 1,419 worked, and for the Bhosari constituency, 1,008 employees contributed. Due to election duties, these officers and employees have not been present at the Municipal Corporation and regional offices, causing delays in work for citizens, social activists, former corporators, and office bearers.
When contacted, the response was that the officials were on election duty. The model code of conduct had been in effect since October 15. The results were announced on Saturday (November 23), and the code of conduct was lifted. Hence, it was expected that the officers and employees would resume their duties. As a result, work has been delayed for about one and a half months, and citizens have expressed frustration over the lack of response from the officials and employees even after the elections were over.
Possibility of Normal Operations Starting Next Month
The result of the assembly elections was declared on Saturday (November 23). After that, it was expected that the officers and employees would resume work at the Municipal Corporation and regional offices from Monday (November 25) and that regular operations would begin smoothly. However, the officials and employees have been on leave until Friday (November 29). Therefore, it is expected that all officials and employees will be back to work on Monday (December 2), and municipal operations will resume with renewed energy, as stated by the officials.
