Two Pedestrians on Morning Walk Hit by Vehicle in Pimpri-Gurav, Sangvi
Pimpri-Chinchwad: If you’re heading out for a morning walk, take extra caution. There have been incidents where speeding vehicles have knocked down pedestrians out for a walk. On Wednesday (11th), two individuals walking in Pimpri-Gurav and Dehu Road areas were hit by vehicles.
Santosh Chavan (40) is the name of the person who died in the Pimpri-Gurav accident. A complaint has been lodged by police officer Kalé (41) at the Sangvi Police Station, leading to a case being filed against Shishpal Khichad (19).
Santosh Chavan had gone out for his morning walk when he was hit by a three-wheeler driven by the accused in Pimpri-Gurav. He suffered serious injuries and died.
In another incident in Dehu Road, Bajirao Dhamodar Tilikar (90, from Dehugaon) was severely injured. A complaint was lodged at Dehu Road Police Station on Tuesday (10th), and a case has been filed against an unknown driver. With two cases on the same day involving morning walk accidents, police are urging people to be cautious when heading out for exercise at dawn.
Traffic Running Wild Due to Signals Being Off
At dawn, traffic signals in city squares are often off, and the roads are less crowded, allowing drivers to speed. This results in accidents when vehicles lose control and hit pedestrians unexpectedly.
Walking in the Bliss of Music
Many young walkers wear headphones while walking, listening to music. This prevents them from hearing the sounds of oncoming vehicles or horns. In the midst of their music, they sometimes walk in the middle of the road without realizing it.
Women Targeted While Walking
Over the past ten months, 135 cases of robbery have been recorded, including 80 incidents of gold jewelry theft. Thieves have specifically targeted women going for morning walks, as revealed during police investigations.
Accidents in the Early Morning Hours
In the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, 341 people died in accidents in the past ten months. Some of these accidents occurred early in the morning, as noted in police records. Police are urging caution for those heading out for morning walks at these hours.
Use Pedestrian Paths
Since the roads are clear at dawn, people tend to walk in the middle of the street. This increases the risk of accidents when speeding vehicles approach. To avoid accidents, it’s crucial for walkers to stick to pedestrian paths.
Running on Highways
Some young people are seen running on highways early in the morning. Drivers coming from long distances may be sleepy, leading to potential accidents. So, taking care during morning walks or runs is equally important.
Fear of Stray Dogs
People going for walks face trouble from stray dogs. When walking on pedestrian paths, stray dogs sometimes approach suddenly, prompting walkers to shift to the middle of the road, which increases the risk of accidents.
Parks Crowded Early in the Morning
The city’s parks see a large crowd in the early morning. In some parks, people bump into each other while walking. Due to this, many prefer walking on the roads, risking accidents.
